Fishermen are always talking numbers and size.  They had this many follows, they caught this many fish.  The biggest was so many pounds and inches.   Fish, do not count, and (opinion) big fish do not even know that they are big.  Big predators have needs and comforts.  Their perspective on their world changes as they grow,  they are no longer comfortable hiding in the weeds.  Big fish cannot maneuver or swim in an easy manner.  Plus the prey that inhabits the weeds, no longer suits their needs.

Big predators (muskies for instance) do not have tape measures or scales, they only react to the world around them through their perspective.  Instinct and experiences are imprinted in their brain.  That is the key for survival.  As a muskie grows, it's head gets much wider then as a fingerling.  It's eyes are much wider and further apart.  This changes every aspect of it's life.  This is the key to what is acceptable prey.  Experience has taught the predator how to locate this acceptable prey and where this prey might be within the predators world.

At least in the fall, muskies tend to be more gregarious than might be thought, and they seem to segregate by similar size.  The Pond Monster has had many experiences over the past couple of years that muskies do need the association of other muskies.  Maybe this helps in their survival, through more efficient feeding  needs that we cannot comprehend.

Successful strategies evolve from success.  The flies that the Pond Monster ties and uses now, are very different from flies that were just used a couple of years ago.  In addition, multiple strategies are now used.  If a strategy is not working, changes are made immediately.  Most people are surprised to catch a muskie and happy with the landing of a few muskies during the course of the fishing season.  The Pond Monster expects to catch a muskie on every cast.  Strategies have now evolved that are producing more and bigger muskies.  The Pond Monster is optimistic about catching a monster or two this next year, right now, the Pond Monster is trying to think like a monster.

Reviewing successes and failues from 2005.  The Pond Monster did have a great year fishing.  Many large muskies and bass were caught.  Many of these fish were caught by different presentations and fly designs.   2006 promises to be a great year, building on the knowledge and experience of the past.  The Pond Monster is anxiously waiting for the opening of the fishing season.

Big muskies do not count and they do not keep score!!!!!!
