One of the great benefits of casting a big muskie fly is that other large predators also love them.  The smallmouth bass have been a real bonus.  Six smallmouths in the 21" range were caught during the 2002 season.  The largest was a fat 23" er that The Pond Monster was privileged to catch.  The Pond Monster's observation would be that if you really wanted to catch big smallmouth's,  use much larger flies than would normally be used.

bulletA 21" er was caught on one side of a rock pile in 8' of water on a white & olive, Pond Monster Streamer.  Came around to the other side of the rock pile, and this beautiful 23"er was caught on the same streamer.  The West Fork of The Chippewa River was the place to be on this May 2002 day.

The Pond Monster is also amazed at the number of really big largemouths that are in the Teal River.  On one May afternoon, dozens of 3 & 4 pound largemouths were caught.  -

A few pictures to show our sensitive side, was releasing a smallmouth bass among the lillies and noticed this beautiful flower.  A picture saved the memory for other days.  The other picture is on the West Fork of the Chippewa.  Sometimes, the sights and sounds of the day, are as enjoyable as doing battle with a worthy adversary.  The Pond Monster.
