Pictures help save the memories of great times with friends & family in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
The muskie on the right attacked the streamer from at least 40" away, the gold and orange spoon that were lodged in it's side were seen bouncing through the water, as the muskie hit the streamer at full speed. Was rewarding to be able to land the muskie, remove the treble hooks and place it back into the Chippewa River. Was amazed at how fast the muskie revived and was able to swim away. Not a big muskie, but a good memory. Two other muskies were also landed that morning in June. The Pond Monster did not get to fish much during 2004, sometimes life has other priorities. On the other hand, there were memorable moments. Out of the 50 plus muskies caught during 2004, 6 were over 40"s and only one was under 30"s. That would indicate that a larger fish strategy was being developed. (less than 100 hrs on the water) the biggest change in strategy would be the use of full sinking fly lines in deeper water. Casting a large fly in open water takes alot of confidence, but the results justified the efforts. On November 17th, two muskies over 40"s were taken in less than an hour on the water. Casting a full sinking 12 wt and 11" streamers that were clicking the bottom. the muskies hit hard and fought valiantly. The larger is pictured. This muskie was of course treated with care and released unharmed.
